THE HEART OF PRAJNA PARAMITA SUTRA

Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara,

While deeply immersed in prajna paramita,

Clearly perceived the empty nature of the five skandhas,

And transcended all suffering.

Shariputra! Form is not different from emptiness,

Emptiness is not different from form.

Form is emptiness, emptiness is form.

So it is with feeling, conception, volition, and consciousness.

Shariputra! All dharmas are empty in character;

Neither arising nor ceasing,

Neither impure nor pure,

Neither increasing nor decreasing.

Therefore, in emptiness, there is no form;

There is no feeling, conception, volition, or consciousness;

No eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, or mind;

No form, sound, smell, taste, touch, or dharmas;

No realm of vision, and so forth,

Up to no realm of mind-consciousness;

No ignorance or ending of ignorance, and so forth,

Up to no aging and death or ending of aging and death.

There is no suffering, no cause, no extinction, no path.

There is no wisdom and no attainment.

There is nothing to be attained.

By way of prajna paramita,

The bodhisattva’s mind is free from hindrances.

With no hindrances, there is no fear;

Freed from all distortion and delusion,

Ultimate nirvana is reached.

By way of prajna paramita,

Buddhas of the past, present, and future

Attain anuttara-samyak-sambodhi.

Therefore, prajna paramita

Is the great powerful mantra,

The great enlightening mantra,

The supreme and peerless mantra.

It can remove all suffering.

This is the truth beyond all doubt.

And the prajna paramita mantra is spoken thus:

Gate gate paragate parasamgate bodhi svaha.  ⎈

“In meditation, we let our thoughts settle.  Do not let the mind wander or become drowsy.  Be aware of each thought.  Neither delight in something good nor worry about something frightening.  Remember, ‘All forms are illusions.’  Maintain mindfulness without clinging to the duality of existence and emptiness. “ (Wisdom Words of the Grand Master)

THREE REFUGES

I take refuge in the Buddha, may all sentient beings Understand the Great Way profoundly, and bring forth the bodhi mind.

I take refuge in the Dharma, may all sentient beings Deeply enter the sutra treasury, and have wisdom vast as the sea.

I take refuge in the Sangha, may all sentient beings Form together a great assembly, one and all in harmony.

FOUR GREAT VOWS

Countless are sentient beings,

I vow to liberate;

Endless are afflictions,

I vow to eradicate;

Measureless are the Dharmas,

I vow to master;

Supreme is the Buddha Way,

I vow to attain.

Dedicate your practice

Dedicate your merits to the world peace and wish for everyone to be free from suffering.

About 40~60 minutes

All the harm I have ever done,

since time immemorial,

Are caused by greed, anger, and ignorance,

And produced through my body, speech, and will,

Now I confess and amend all.

“The ultimate repentance is to realize the true nature of the mind and abide by it each moment.  This will cleanse all sins. Hence the saying “one light dispels the darkness of a thousand years.”

“The great master Yong Jia says, “Walking is Chan, sitting is Chan; in speech or in silence, in motion or in stillness, the essence is at peace.” When we are enlightened and come to a true understanding, this mind constantly exists, without any delusive thoughts; every thought is perfectly clear; we are masters of ourselves everywhere; whether we are in stillness or in motion, the mind exists and is perfectly clear—that is Chan. When we are meditating, there is only this mind that is tranquil and wu-wei, bright and clear, like a solitary moon high up in the sky; with only this one thought and no second thought; one thought until the end, one thought for ten thousand years; in ten thousand years, only one thought, without any confusion, delusions, or boredom. Whether sleeping or walking, there is only this one thought, never deviating from this mind. When we are talking, the mind is peaceful and at ease; when we are quiet/still, the mind is still peaceful and at ease; even if we are in a battle of whirling swords, this mind is perfectly clear, peaceful, and at ease; this is “walking is Chan, sitting is Chan, in speech or in silence, in motion or in stillness, the essence is at peace.” The ancients say, “Everything is right here.” Enlightenment is to be awakened to this mind that is intrinsic, to realize that the mundane mind does not give rise to delusive thoughts or ignorance—that is our own original face. It is not to see something or to obtain something.” (Dharma Talk by the Grand Master)
